Well loved French Teacher, Fisherman, Husband, Father...
From Kathryn...
"Sadly Robbie (as we knew him) died yesterday in the Norfolk and Norwich. It was peaceful with my mum and I with him. I would be grateful if you would let any old Pastonians know. There is a message on Facebook but obviously not everyone uses Social Media "

We will miss Marty. RIP

Update: Marty's funeral was Friday 21st September 2018 at Cromer Crematorium. A non- religious ceremony (his specific request) well marked with standing room only. Lovely tribute by son Peter and his angling fraternity. Coffin adourned with 'Gone Fishing' (to the pond printed on the casket).

I was at PGS from 61-68, initially as a boarder. During the school dinner dance around 1963 a group of boys moved Mart's parked mini into the bike sheds down the yard, between two support posts. Next morning we were amazed to see he had got it out. Apart from getting me through A-level French he was also largely responsible for my 60 year enjoyment of tennis.

I taught French with Robbie (as he was known more often in the staffroom) from 1970-1976, and attended his funeral. My wife and I had met up with him and kept in touch with his former wife Shirley over many years, and we treasure our memories of so much laughter. Such a wonderful character, and I'm so privileged to have known him.
