... Deryck Reginald Aldridge DFC

Sadly died on Sept 4th 2013 aged 91. I attended his funeral at Cromer Church on 18th September. I worked on brief occasions with Deryck at BT (then PO Telephones) between 1963 and 1966. However I remember well seeing his name as Plt Off D R Aldridge DFC on the WW2 honours board which hung in the old assembley hall at PGS when I was at the school between 1955 - 1960,(it is still there). Deryck took part in the Peenemunde bombing raids attacking the V2 missile production facility and there is a paragraph recalling this in Martin Middlebrook's book The Peenemunde Raids. Deryck is survived by his wife Audrey and 2 daughters and their families.

Thank you for your reminiscence Frank. I’m Deryck’s grand daughter and also an Old Pastonioan - though from the days of the sixth form college. I was always very proud to see my Grandad’s name on the board in the hall.

Hello Jenny. I have only just spotted your comment on here. Just to say that Deryck was a lovely man, kind and courteous. I was just a junior technician when I worked alongside him in those now far off days. I only discovered the publication about his WW2 service many years later when I last saw him at the 400th anniversary service of thanksgiving for the founding of the Paston School in 2006. I know he held a deep & sincere Christian Faith and had a long association with the Gospel Hall near Cromer. Remembered with great affection. RIP Deryck.
